Flu season and suggested group classes

Dear Suzuki Strings of Madison parents,

While there has been a great deal of press coverage recently about the coronavirus in Wuhan, the reality is that the better known varieties of influenza that we all know are currently a greater risk, particularly for the very old and very young.

We’ve had a rise in flu-like absences in group classes the last few weeks and they will likely continue for the next few weeks. It’s important that we remind ourselves and our children to follow established guidelines for reducing flu risk.

It is our share responsibility in keeping our community healthy . Try to avoid close contact with sick people. While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.

If you are sick please take time off from group classes and enjoy your suzuki listening while recuperating .

If you are sick with flu symptoms, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone.Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or sneeze into elbow . Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.

As for the coronavirus, there are currently no known cases in Wisconsin and no specific state or federal guidelines out about it. We do plan to follow any recommendations provided by the CDC or state public health experts.

For travelers who have come from China recently there is a slightly elevated risk. SSM families who have family members who have recently returned from China are very aware of this risk and are taking all of the recommended precautions.

stay healthy !
